Am I the only one uninterested by McLaren?

As Chris Harris pointed out in his latest video, McLaren seem to be the cool car company right now that everyone talks about - even by those not particularly interested in cars. Obviously the P1 has had a big part to play in this and whilst I am sure it is an astonishing, redefining car, I can't help but think 'meh' towards the P1, 12c and new 650s - something about them just doesn't do it for me.

Anyone else feel the same, or is every body adrift in a sea of patriotism now that a British manufacturer has now set a new bar for excellence?

Expensive cars have a role as status symbols. To be a successful status symbol they need to be attractive to people who can't afford them.

No one ever admits they buy anything because it's a status symbol, that doesn't mean it isn't a factor in the purchase.

Plus, in the case of McLaren, it's not like it needs to be a "halo car" for the brand in the way that something like the GT40 would be for Ford, for example.

I'd have a P1 over the 918 or LaF, not that it is ever going to happen. But then I'd have a Ferrari FF over a 650S or 12C, so it's not about the marque but whether the car appeals.

The P1 is, for me, the cream of the hyper car crop. I love it, and I love that it's a British company - it's a car you could buy with pride, and not feel you compromised compared to the offerings from Porsche and (eventually) Ferrari - I think there's a lot to be said for that. If I had a large lottery win, a P1 one would unquestionably find its way into my garage.

With the OP on this one, they don;t really appeal to me, even the F1 doesn;t appeal to me, the only thing I like about the F1 is that it has a BMW engine, that's it.

To be honest, I too would take a P1 over the 918 and LaF - but it still doesn't excite me... Theoretically it's my dream car, British built, V8, Twin Turbo, looks pretty good etc but for some reason it just doesn't appeal.

I'd sooner have a Carrera GT, F1 or 360CS!

I'd take any the Huracan over the 12C, and a Huayra over the P1 any day.

I agree with OP, they've always left me cold. Maybe it was the styling.
The P1 changed that, but the 650S again does nothing for me.
And no, I can't afford one, it's just an opinion.

I'm sure if you do a search or question owners about the PR marketing they'll tel loyu its ben far from helpful i terms of supporting the 12C's value and the 12C has been far from a sales success, talk of 100k discounts in the US on new spiders!

Talk to owners or potential owners about the faults, lack of support, lies, unwillingness by the dealers to buy back cars, painful depreciation.........glad I dodged a bullet there

I agree with the OP. Just not my thing. I'm not really a huge fan of cars that look like wafer biscuits on wheels that you have to limbo dance in and out of. I'd like a Lotus Carlton and a Messerschmitt bubble car.
