Is Red paint the new White?

Never used to be a fan (Ferrari's excepted), but recently I've started to see a few more cars around in red that look good, the new Seat Leon's, the Golf Gti on Top Gear etc. I never used to like red on the EP3 Civic Type R, but now think it's the colour to go for.

Amongst the sea of grey, silver, black and now white cars, often red seems to be the only stand out colour offered by many manufacturers. Added bonus seems to be it's often a free paint choice!

Is red paint due a comeback?

Always thought the same. Although Honda red is notorius for going pink in anything stronger than moonlight unless you polish it religiously.

Now that white is popular, some manufacturers charge for it. Flat red replaces it as the "free" option.

One can only hope. I like red cars, it's such a cheerful colour that is also good for being visible in poor conditions and a nice change from the endless sea of dull greyness.

Lol hope not, don't like red cars myself.
My 1st pajero was red - well pink to be honest. Never had any luck in red cars, one accident in a red hire golf and I hit a sheep in my pajero

Red cars don't go pink any more like Fords and Vauxhalls were little more than ten years ago.

I've seen the odd red C63 (saloon and coupe) and quite liked them.

Have had some red Alfa myself and thought it suited them.

Still prefer my E Classes in black/silver/gunmetal though.

Seems to be cyclic. Red paint seemed to be the default for many years into the 90's. It was considered easy to clean, didn't chip as easily and was easy to touch up. Then Silver took over. It looks more expensive as it is a metallic but looks clean even when dirty and again is easy to "de-chip". Now since they "fixed" white so it does not look yellow that seems to be the default. Generally once it starts looking too common it falls from favour.

Not sure I believe that.

Anyway, can't stand white on most cars, so a shift to red is good for me.

red is great but it makes you stand out more which is not good for thieves/vandals and the BiB

its can also be very hard to match and normally shows up very badly under street lights, a chap at work had the NS rear wing and door painted about 4 months ago and its 30 shades different !!

Despite owning a red car, I'm not a fan of red unless its on a Ferrari!

I hope the trend doesn't shift to red!

I've noticed new Fiesta and Focus STs in quite a distinctive red; it does look good.

Vauxhall Pink is a very common colour on older cars.

I've always liked red. I had a Mars Red Scirocco in the 80s that I loved.
My mother wanted something bright and went for a Mars Red Focus though Ford's version is more orangey than red.
I wanted my Fiesta ST in red but couldn't find one, so it's blue.
My Mustang is silver but again, no choice really or I would have had a nice metallic blue.

Certain colours suit certain cars.
I love Renault's metallic red on the Clio which really "pops" in the sun.

Always liked red myself and agree that the metallic red on the new clio is superb.
