I've seen a few old cars, Fords especially, go through ebay that are well past saving. They go for good money too.

All adverts highlight the fact the vin plate and V5 are present.

I can't help but feel these cars are bought with the sole intention of using the identity on another stolen vehicle.

Are new reproduction shells available? If so that makes this a a tricky one to call as that vehicle could be legitimately used as the basis for a re-shell and full restoration. Although I can't imagine much of the original van would be useable and it would probably need an SVA (or whatever the new test is called), I think?

There was a rumour circulating a year or two back that one of the wealthy Irish rally clans had done a deal with Ford for repro Mk2 2dr shells being produced by one of the firms in the USA that make the repro Mustang bodies, but I haven't seen or heard of anything since, so guessing nothing came of it.

Brand new replacement parts like shells count as original for DVLA ID purposes. Hence all the reshelled MGs are legally on their original registrations.
