Who has driving LEGALLY at more than 70 MPH in UK

With the anniversary of the blanket 70 mph limit in the UK approaching, i was wondering, who on here can remember those heady days when passing a police car at warp 2 didnt mean a chase and endorsement and a fine?

Not because of time but I was involved in some accident investigation work for the police (which helped secure a 7 year sentence) and was asked by the officer next to me to repeatedly break the speed limit getting closer and closer to the limit of the car, way in excess of the posted limit, all whilst being laser speed checked and filmed.

It was fantastic fun!

That's a bit weird; surely a talented driver can take a corner safely at a speed where a numpty would crash? You not crashing would surely not tell the authorities anything about whether a numpty would crash at that speed? I know nothing about accident investigation, I'm just curious!

Lots of times and still do 140+ mph regularly.

In the UK. Not on the public roads though!

The speeds I was getting were so far removed from those the accused was describing it was obvious something was amiss with his story.

140+ on the Isle of Man, not sure if it's classed as part of the UK though. It's an odd feeling giving it full throttle coming out of a 30 and seeing a police officer waving you on to go faster, or overtaking a police car at 90+ and not worrying about it. Long may it happen!

I've driven 120mph legally, but presumably being on a private test track doesn't count.

Been a passenger in a car in the UK overtaking a Police car doing 120...admittedly we also had blue lights on.

I've never legally (other than a track day) driven at more than 70.

Apparently mybrainhurts could've driven legally at more than 70 mph but there were no cars that could do more than 15 mph at the time.
