mazda 2.0D 2008 good or bad

Hello all,

I am looking at buying a Mazda 6 2.0D 2008 model, how is this car rated.... i ahve looked up parkers etc... but only get general information. it would be good to get an opinion if anyone has experience using this car. i do about 15-17k miles a year.

Someone on here had terrible problems with the diesel. Can't specifically remember the name of the person. However, they said they would never own a diesel one again.

I think the general opinion is to stick to the petrol versions. However, as this is the internet, you only hear the bad stuff. They could be fine.

Lifesaabh iirc. I think this is a post facelift car and a later engine, but I'd want to be very sure of that...

the car is a facelift (previous to the current version available) with 57k on the clock,

It looks from the picture to be the previous model, but I'd want to be very sure they've sorted the engine.

the newer model diesels still pull the same trick.

I'd stick with the petrol. Have a look on Ebay at the number of very dead Mazda 6 diesels...

In contrast SWMBO's 03 petrol has needed no more than a battery and a service in two years.

Wow! I knew they had problems, but it looks like they haven't been cured. Interesting that Mazda has now issued a service bulletin for this, but it could be too late for a lot of cars.

OP, why do you specifically need a diesel? Get a petrol one if you can.

its a good question... didn't want a diesel due to stories on DPF, DMF and everything else...the only reason i am looking at this
1. I need a new car soon
2. My Friend's dad is selling his car and has quoted me £5k for a 2008 with 57k miles on the clock, thought the price was good hence the enquiry.

But looking at the reviews i don't think it will be a good idea even for that price..

Can understand the needing something soon problem though.

Could be worth asking your friend if his dad has had any issues with the car. However, I guess the main problems with the diesel 6 could start appearing after a few years usage.

Can recommend their petrol engines as others above have already. Over 340,000 miles and still going strong.
