Cheap station car options

With a potential forthcoming move, it's likely I'm going to have to employ a "station car" - I was thinking something small, cheap (ideally around 500-1K) and reliable...

Candidates at the moment are:

Ford KA (old shape) - had these before and seemed ideal for the job
Yaris - again an older shape. Did like the look of the old 1.3 TR with the chunky exhaust!
Older Corolla
Civic

Anything else to consider or look out for on the options mentioned?

K11 Micra?
They appear reliable enough to survive the Apocalypse, so a daily station run shouldn't be a problem.
Plenty available as well.

If you can find a vclean 1.3 SR, then the Yaris is a good bet. Comfy, even for tall people, bomb proof engine and a suprisingly good stereo.

Jap not ka. The ka will have turned into iron oxide by the time you've done your return train journey.
Yaris is a good shout.
You want as small an engine as possible for faster warm-up and efficiency (plus heater)
Fiat Panda another option.

i use my jimny, perfect

very easy to park, very small and gets you moving in bad weather, plus you get a free offroader as part of the deal!

Are these in budget yet? If so I would agree as you will get there in the snow!

Thanks for the suggestions so far - Hadn't thought about the older shaped micra...

Would I fit in a Jimny?!? They look pretty tiny to me...

Interesting comments about the Ka - I had an 08 plate and (given it was only 6 months old at the time) it didn't have any rust. My Mum has a Y plate, stupidly low miles and has spent the last few years outside and it isn't a pile of rust - yet!
