Private plate search

Hi I'm looking for help trying to cut through the difficulties of buying a private plate.

I have seen a plate listed on websites acting as agencies that look for 10% as a fee and after talking to them they have told me that the owner has listed the plate elsewhere on the 28th of feb.

Is there a way of tracking down the owner using the reg to avoid the exorbitant fee and also the uncertainty of using an agent.

Where is the most likely place someone might list there own plate if they were selling it?

You can'y track a plate to the owner (and neither can the agencies) unless you can convince DVLA that you have a good reason to do so. Wanting to buy the plate is not a good reason!
If you are interested in a plate that has never been issued, you can ask DVLA to put it in their next auction - they will often oblige.

Ok, I thought that may be a long shot to be able to find the registered keeper. I guess I will just have to keep searching the web to see if I can find an original listing.
