Quick question regarding private plate and selling car

Hi all

i understand that i need to fill out the relevant forms and send the V5 to retain the numberplate on the car.

If i send off the relevant docs, can i still let them take the car with the new keeper supplement and just forward on the new V5 when i get it??

I dont want to loose my private plate, thats all!

youll need to keep the WHOLE logbook,

I just sold my car last month and am currently in the process of having my number plate retained.

It's much easier if you retain the numberplate, and get a new log book, MOT certificate & tax disc for the vehicle in it's "old" number before you sell the vehicle on.

You could though with agreement of the new keeper (As you're not passing the MOT on to him) give the new keeper the "green piece" of the logbook, fill in the logbook with the new keepers details, then send off to the DVLA; The log book, MOT, and cheque for the fee. If you've got the new vehicle that the numberplate is going to go on, then include that log book & MOT. I would include a letter with it explaining just what is required.

We've just done nearly all this. Bought a "new" car, changed keeper, and numberplate from previous car, although we still have the previous car. It took about 2 weeks for it all to come back done & sorted.
