Deciper Insurance Email/Help

Over the weekend I received my renewal quote through from Diamond - wasn't happy with the price, phoned up, they couldn't match the quote I received elsewhere so I requested they don't renew the policy. No problem the guy on the phone said, I've cancelled the renewal.

I have now received an email through with the following;

"We are sorry that you have decided not to renew your policy with us and hope that you will give us a call next year"

Great..

Now the next bit;

"Please log on to https://secure.diamond.co.uk/surrender-certificate... to surrender your Renewal Certificate."

So I click on the link, it asks for my Policy details and asks me to select if I am Suspending or Cancelling my Policy, followed by a warning at the bottom;

"The use of this form means that your policy is cancelled. It will be deleted from the Motor Insurance Database which is used by the police to enforce the law on insurance and if you use your vehicle without a valid policy, you will be committing an offence."

Do I just ignore this link? It is not relevant to me? My policy still runs until 5th April, and my new one starts on 5th April. As far as I'm concerned I've cancelled the renewal and that is all.

You shouldn't have to surrender a renewal certificate only an actual certificate of insurance.

If you have a certificate of insurance with the 'new' cover date from April and a unique policy number i.e. not the same as your current insurance then its fine to surrender it.

Outside of this I wouldn't surrender anything as it could invalidate your current policy.

I doubt they would have sent you an actual certificate of insurance for the new cover which isn't due to start until next month but anything is possible with insurance companies.

I'd write to them saying you aren't going to renew and leave it at that unless you hear otherwise.

Yeah this was the bit I was worried about, not being covered from now until 5th April if I surrender the current one.

I have already received my new Insurance Cert (from Tesco) stating the cover date starts 5th April and I've paid annually in full too so shouldn't be any issues with the new policy at all.

I guess I'll just ignore that bit of the email from Diamond, they know I don't want to renew and that's all I want from them. The renewal quote from them had the same policy number as my existing policy which was why I was hesitant to cancel.
