Do you get tearful over The Snowman and his (spoiler alert!) drip-drip demise into a melted soggy mess every Christmas? Probably best you don't click this video then. For it contains snowmen meeting a considerably more violent end.

It's a bit of a preview of Ford's Rallycross championship entry, excitement for this traditionally niche motorsport ramping up considerably this season. Petter Solberg is one of a number of high profile emigres from WRC and even F1 into RX and there's a proper buzz as a World Championship round will visit Kent's Lydden Hill to cement Rallycross's evolution into a proper global motorsport. Albeit one still in touch with its grassroots.

Anyway, that's to come. Here you can get a taste of the cars Ford will be entering and the kind of development they're going through. Which, frankly, looks like a lot of fun.

Are they on skinny tyres purely for training/camera shots/snow reasons? I'm guessing they don't run those in actual RX competitions right?

Normal tyres for snow work. Anything too wide tends to skate over the surface. The narrow tyre cuts through the top layer of snow to find grip.

Similar size tyres used in WRC Swedish rally.
