Tyre sizes

Quick question - I've just bought a 2000 volvo v70 shed. It needs two front tyres.

Current tyres are 205/55/16 on factory fit volvo alloys

Everywhere I've read says the correct tyre size should be 215/55/16

Will it be an issue fitting the 215's in place of the 205? I would rather the car had the factory specified tyre size...

Mine is the same year and runs 195/60/15

How wide are your wheels? 205 is the perfect fitment for 7" wheels. 215 for 7.5" wide. 215s will fit a 7" fine though, just pinch inwards slightly.

Why would there be an issue fitting the tyre size that is recommended? Maybe the tyres on the car now were bought on the cheap and don't actually fit the vehicle well.

At 70, the difference in tyre diameter/circumference will make ~1mph difference on your speedo reading which is fairly negligible, however you would probably want to replace all four tyres so you have the same tyre sizes at front and back, otherwise you might change how the car handles.

That was my first thought, they are mega nasty chinese tyres all round. Just threw me a touch as the standard fit is listed as 215 and the tyres fitted are 205.

205's were probably cheaper than 215's...

Some tyre dealer websites say my A6 needs 215/55/16 rather than the 205/55/16 that's on it - but the label inside the fuel cap says otherwise.

Cheers, black circles confirms 215 width.

I phoned my local tyre guy and he reckons 215 but has both widths in stock anyway so ill head up and see him this afternoon

I dare say he also has a lot of other sizes in stock too but that's of no interest to you.

You bought a car with ditchfinders, which were also the wrong size of tyre, fitted to the original wheels. Your local tyre guy has the correct size, hopefully in a decent model, so fit the correct size.
