Porsche Boxster GTS and Cayman GTS offical

15hp boost and cherry picked options for hopped up GTS Boxster S and Cayman S

Porsche has confirmed details of the Cayman GTS and Boxster GTS, new variants of the respective 3.4-litre S versions of each with a small tickle to the engine and package of mechanical and aesthetic upgrades.

Black 20-inch wheels and trimmings standard

In short you get 15hp extra and 7lb ft extra in both cases (330hp/273lb ft for the Boxster GTS, 340hp/280lb ft for the Cayman GTS) with an 'optimised' version of the 3.4-litre flat-six, standard Sport Chrono with dynamic engine mounts, 20-inch Carrera S wheels in black, PASM adjustable dampers, Alcantara trimmings for the cabin and Porsche Dynamic Lighting System headlights enclosed in black casings. A more extreme suspension setting with a -20mm ride height drop and PDK are among the options. So, yes, manuals are standard in both cases.

Porsche's love of overly airbrushed press pictures means the visual impact of these updates is somewhat diminished for now but it's clear there are enough distinguishing features to set the GTS models apart from their regular S brothers.

Worth the money though? Well, the wheels, PASM, PDLS and Sport Chrono would add £3,504 as options to the base prices of a manual Boxster S (£46,112) or comparable Cayman S (£48,783) for starters. But at £52,879 for the Boxster GTS and £55,397 for the Cayman GTS you're effectively looking at the equivalent of a £6.5K options spend on each. Not difficult to achieve with a few minutes on the Porsche configurator but the attraction of the stand-out aesthetics and fact they're wrapped up in one package and topped off with a small power bump adds to the appeal. Canny Porsche buyers will have already recognised that GTS models are often the pick of their respective ranges too so you can't imagine Official Porsche Centres struggling too hard to shift them.

Both cars are on sale now, first deliveries are expected in May.

I do like this mk Boxster. I'll probs get shot but i think its the first true 'blokes' Boxster. The previous models always were a bit to girly looking for me.

Still think however good the interiors are, my god are they bland.

Agree , the boxster is starting to look good . More aggressive .
Cayman is a great car ...but can't help but think it competes with the company's own 911 cars ..
Must say I hate the way porsche and other company's air brush and photo shop the car adverts ....makes the cars look dull and flat ....almost surrealistic

They are better looking - agreed - but why have Porsche taken to airbrushing their cars in such publicity ? Someone somewhere in Marketing must think they still need improving aesthetically ...

I don't know why anyone would buy a Cayman over a Boxster..apart from not liking the "image"..you would have to be driving at 10/10ths to notice any real world difference in performance

GTS badge seems to be becoming much like the "S" moniker for the Audi range.

+1 Somehow the Boxster seems the better resolved shape of the pair. Sharper looking than the 911 Cabrio. The Cayman still looks a bit like a poor mans 911.

coupes are just nicer to drive, less noise, more boot space, more secure and better looking.

As for why choose a Cyamna over a Boxster, how about the obvious reason of wanting a coupe over a cabrio?

I bl**dy hate the phrase "a poor mans Porsche". If someone owns a 911 but owns a house that's worth 50% of his car, does that make him a wealthy Porsche owner - or just a bit daft?

I don't know why you'd choose the Boxster over a Cayman TBH, especially if you're not the sort of person that regularly drives with the roof down, which is most people (in the UK).

I personally think it looks quite dis-similar to the 991, and it's at least 2/3 the price, and therefore IMO, is the pic of Porsche (sportscar) the range.
