No longer enjoy driving... or so I thought.

Had a 3 day road trip this week, taking in London, Cornwall, Shrewsbury, Lake District and the North East.
It occurred to me that I no longer enjoy driving and have been perfectly content at 70 or less...
Until.
The SatNav directed me across the North Pennines, above the A66. Twisty hilly roads, very little traffic, my god it was fun! All of my careful fuel saving driving was undone in an hour,
Also impressed with the X5. For a big AWD, it copped with being chucked about far better than I would expect.
Simple pleasures... It was like going back twenty years.

Often return from the north west on the M6 /A66 , especially at night you can comb back within all legal limits and enjoy yourself m'lud.It occurred to me that I no longer enjoy driving and have been perfectly content at 70 or less...

Nope. I do a lot of miles. The X5 is a pretty nice place to be. Quiet, comfortable, hassle free. Also use a W210 E320 Merc with similar ability. Anything 'conducive to enjoyment' is going to piss me off when I'm trying to cruise on the motorway.Modern roads, speed camera's, traffic etc. have driven me down.

So it's not really a case of not enjoying driving then, it's the fact that your current car is not exciting, its comfortable (think firey supermodel girlfriend vs dependable dorris - one is fun, one is comfortable, neither is perfect), and the environment you regularly drive in is not enjoyable. If you had a fun weekend car like a Caterham and some good roads nearby that you didn't need a roadtrip to get to, your perspective on driving would be pretty different.Modern roads, speed camera's, traffic etc. have driven me down.
40+ miles of M3 - M25 - M4 is not fun.
Bangernomics mode kicked in real quick.
Only comforts - aircon and cruise control.
For the majority of the populous the daily drive to work is monotonous bumper to bumper stuff.
When you do get the chance of engaging roads that are free from Sunday drivers, then thinking about a weekend toy becomes appealing.
