How many other cars could get ridiculous mpg figures travelling at about 40mph? Total average speed is 35mph, presumably they stopped for a few driver changes?

I bet you could do much better with a more aerodynamic, diesel-powered car.

I bet they used pulse and glide between 30 and 50, how hilly is the circuit they used?

Its a misprint. Official figure is 61mpg, they beat it by 8mpg getting 69mpg not 99mpg

It states the car did 1123 from 51.4 litres, which works out around 99ish mpg. I think they're saying it beats the 91mpg official figure of the diesel.
Whether this really classes as real world driving is doubtful. They say the 1123 miles took 32 hours which works out at around 35mph. That must have been one dull drive.
