Returning to the UK and Car options

Just wondering if you could offer any advice on this ?

We're returning to the UK to live permanently in June and of course will need some cars to get around.
Thing is, we've been out of the UK for 14 years now, so any records of previous no claims bonus will have long been archived.
Any thoughts on who might be a good place to insure with as newly returning UK Residents ?

I presume that leasing of any duration would be out of the question as we'd not have any recent history in the UK so would fail the credit scoring.

In terms of insurance - am I going to get bent over when it comes to Car insurance premiums ? I've been driving since 1989 and not had a single claim of any kind for the last 14 years while out here. But of course will be starting on 0 NCB once we're back.

Short Term I guess we'll have to rent a car/cars through one of the Rental agencies while we search for a Car.

Are there any other companies that might offer similar schemes ?

Hi I can't be much help but I can say that I'm looking for insurance at the moment too, and actually some insurers when asking for NCB will ask in which country it was earned. So by that I assume they want to know as it could have some effect. This part is now speculation, but I would guess it depends which country you got your NCB as perhaps some they might not be as impressed by as others as it were. Good luck with getting a more complete answer and hopefully this is slightly helpful!
