porsche boxter3.2s

hi guys and dolls. i dont know if any one have had the same problem i have just heard on the rear of my boxter. i have a 3.2 s porsche boxter 2003. i was out last sunday for a md spin about. when i was on the way home i staretd to hear some type of wearing noise coming from the rear end of the car. has anyone got an idea what it might be. cheers guys.

It's the Intermedite Shaft Bearing. If it fails it will cost you about 6K to fix!

I had an 03 one approx 3 yrs old with 36k on it. One day it started making an odd noise, difficult to describe but a kind of dry bearing sound. I was about 20 mins away from Porsche centre Chester so headed their way and about a mile away there was a catastrophic noise and a dead car! IMS had snapped.
I was very very fortunate with how it was handled by Porsche as they paid for the recon engine and a portion of the labour too even though it was out of warranty. (Think the full dealer history helped)
Based on my experience I'd say consider having it recovered by Porsche assist too!!

Depends if you've got a Porsche warranty or any type of warranty at all?

Search the internet for Hartech Porsche Specialists. They're based in Bolton and are the go to experts for general engine and IMS failure. I'd recommend getting the car to them if you can for a full and frank diagnosis.

This is all presuming that is is the worst of course.

I had to have a rear wheel bearing replaced on my 3.2S last year. Cost about £300 at an indy if I remember correctly.

Don't listen to all the IMS crap, if the car has reached 40k miles without any issues then it's likely to be fine.

Gearbox failure is a real issue and theres no cheap solution.
