Lotus Exige V6 v Porsche 911
Discussion
Drove an Exige V6 today and been left stunned at its abilities. I know this has been said before but the car really is utterly superb. Brilliant steering and awesome chassis which copes so well with rutted roads whilst providing agile, roll free handling.
Performance is so strong throughout the rev range and it has plenty of low down torque. Gearchange is as good as anything out there, it looks stunning and really is everyday useable. Is there a more complete sports road car on sale? Not been in a 991 but not sure how it can be any better, particularly as it is knocking on double the price.
Lotus, I salute you...

I had been waiting patiently for Lotus to come up with a proper 2-seat sportscar and was very excited to drive Exige V6.
Plus points
Plus points
- astounding performance from that Toyota engine
- astounding handling
- better looking than Evora
- very awkward to get in and out
- appalling rear visibility
- very cramped interior
That's a fair point!
As you may have gathered from my earlier post I had been really looking forward to arrival of Exige V6 and having a go in it. I thought the "convertible" model shown at Geneva (?) a couple of years ago looked astounding, without the boy-racer wing etc. Anyway, I guess I was hoping for something more in the direction of an Evora with more sensible packaging and better styling. In the event Lotus kept the Exige more in the "track" direction than I'd expected.
Exige V6 must be one of the quickest road-legal cars available for sale at any price. Unfortunately my road car needs aren't met by a road-legal racer. One day I'd still like to own a Lotus road car - let's hope they can get sorted out. It's a long time since they launched a car which brings the customers flocking to the door.

The 911 isn't really a sports car these days, it's a GT. As such, comparing the Exige to the 911 is a bit meaningless - they're good at different things.
Quite, I wonder what other un similar cars the OP hasn't driven that he thinks the lotus is better than?It was perfectly comfortable, quiet and perfectly practical, providing a big boot was not needed. I even found it reasonably easy to get in and out. IMO it could easily be used as a daily driver and something that could easily deliver on a Euro trip.
It was this usability that meant I was thinking whether any improved NVH etc that a 911 would probably provide was really necessary for someone who enjoys driving as the Exige was simply sublime on the road.

This was meant more as a thought than anything particularly definitive. After driving it, I left thinking that for the traditional enthusiast that it provides a pretty compelling package and for me it was not a track day refugee at all.

Well fair enough but it is rather odd to mention a car that isn't similar or competing in the same market. It was perfectly comfortable, quiet and perfectly practical, providing a big boot was not needed. I would have thought a cayman was closer to it than a 911

Absolutely. However it could also be argued that an Exige does provide something for ex 997 customers.I would have thought a cayman was closer to it than a 911
