Locking wheel nut key stuck - HELP!!

Help! - Neighbour lent me his wheel spider thing but my locking wheel nut key has stuck in it. I've tried all the usual banging it on the side of a wall and putting it back on the nut and wiggling etc to no avail. Any useful/helpful suggestions please?

Grab the nut with your left hand and the tool with your other hand and pull apart...man up. If you can't manage that then goto the gym and try again later.

Apply a bit of heat to the 'spider thingy' to expand it away from the locking wheel nut then pull apart. Blow torch, gas hob, cigarette lighter or a candle can be good sources of heat for this.

Looks like it's started to turn inside the spider.

If it jammed when tightening a bolt, put it back onto the bolt and try to loosen it and vice versa. It should free itself once the flats of the key align themselves with those of the spider again.

Is there a lip against the bottom of the key?
If so, WD40 over it, wait, then place a flat head screw driver under lip, swing at screwdriver handle with a hammer.
Buy new screwdriver after bending old one.

Buy your neighbour a new cross brace and keep that one. They're only a few quid

And next time use the correct sized socket on the locking wheel nut! It looks like the socket was too big.

Is it a spider or an extension bar?

Chances are if its stuck badly enough not to come off with bashing the faces will be rounded and therefore ruined.

Just buy him a new one. The amount of rust on that suggest to me that it was a pretty rubbish tool to start with.

You need a hammer. a big one.

Put on tightened nut.

tap the arms of the spider in te opposite direction from when it got stuck.

Rinse and repeat.

Buy the neighbour a new one. In future if using rusty tools put a small amount of lubricant between the two although to be honest it looks like it may have been the wrong size... imperial/metric perhaps?

It does happen to everyone... but if its any consolation its a far better problem than sheering the locking nut after applying to much pressure to release it
