BMW 130i - are these service costs reasonable?

Hi guys,

I've been quoted the following by a BMW specialist and would like to get your input on whether these costs are reasonable and in line with what one would expect. Service to include:

Oil Service inc plugs
Brake Fluid
Micro and Air Filter
Vehicle Check

All in £411.12. The owner said this was at retail rates for the parts and there was likely to be a further 10% off when he actually orders the parts.

Additionally I am having rear pads changed with genuine items: £135.29 all in

Finally a rear near side suspension bush: £150 all in (This seems a tad dear to me)

I paid £220 recently for an inspection II service on an e46 330ci if that helps?!

Sounds expensive for the "service" part - the rest sounds reasonable. Try your local friendly main dealer.

Depends on what you mean by "reasonable".

That's pretty much what it costs to service new premium cars these days. You're not being ripped off by the garage.

You might be able to find it a bit cheaper or find some discount codes if you shop around.
But, those prices are reasonable when compared with prices in general.

Whether I think that aftermarket servicing in general is overpriced, unreasonable and used to pad the profit margin on new car sales; well, that's a different discussion.

My fiat abarth 500 was £480 for the same items. So yes, sadly, seems about right..

If time isn't precious to you, I implore you to change your own rear pads. Save the receipt for your records.

Agreed.

Once you've got the correct tools (I highly recommend a piston wind-back tool), have have done it at least once, you can get the whole lot done in half an hour. I actually prefer changing rear brakes to front ones.

Not "cheap" but doesn't sound unreasonable to me. I wouldn't be wanting "cheap" on that car anyway.

I guess a main dealer will charge around £120 an hour for labour and a decent indy will be around £60 an hour, so I don't think you're being fleeced by any means.

Inspection 2 on a 330i for £220? I'm astounded. That's so cheap I'd be left wondering which items had been omitted....
