Email just landed from Jaguar about the F Type Coupe:

"The motoring experts have passed their verdict on the new F-TYPE Coupé – and now it’s your turn.
A welcome addition to the F-TYPE range, our UK showrooms have taken delivery of the first F-TYPE Coupés and we’d like you to be the first to experience a test drive.
Then you’ll know how it feels to experience the power of a supercharged engine, 8-speed Quickshift transmission and race-bred chassis.

We think you’ll be every bit as thrilled as the experts.

Contact your local dealer Book a test drive"

I'm probably not looking to buy one now but I do keep a running list in my head of the 'next car' I've generally got the next car when the time comes. Having a close look and driving it could help to get the car on that list.

My question is, as the email has come directly from Jaguar and not a dealership does that mean it's about 'selling the brand' rather than a sales guy selling a car now? As such, shall I take them up on their offer with a clear conscience?

I've taken a keen interest in all of the car salesman threads including the closed one and wish that the secret forum wasn't so. This post is not intended to create the usual aggressive arguments between the sales guys and others.

It's about generating prospects for the dealership to convert.

Go in, be 100% straight with them. If they look after you, buy from them in the future when the time comes (try remember the exact salesperson). I they don't, go elsewhere.

If you're not in the market for one right now don't waste their time.

If and when you're considering buying one go and take a test drive then. Bit pointless until then surely?

There was a thread on this the other other day, some of the people who work in dealerships went mad and started accusing those who do a test drive but don't instantly buy the car a time wasting.

If it's an open invite to come along to see a new car and potentially drive the car then go for it.

Just go test drive it.

They offered with the goal of enticing you to buy, not as some kind of lip service with an expectation you WILL buy.

After all you may test drive it and think it's crap, and then you can do better long-term financial planning based on that knowledge smile

The way I see it -

It's a generic invite - hoping to push those who may in the market into a new Jag.

If I got it I'd file it with all the other generic advertising I get, whether its a new hoover or a new car - if I'm in the market for the car I would have already approached them.

However, if you're genuinly interested in the car and don't look like a chancer then there is nothing wrong about going to test drive it in my opinion - afterall, they asked you first!! smile
