Both top arms splitting gaiters os and ns advisory note from service

What are these?
Off an audi s4 b6 2004

Think garage mentioned part is about £60 each would imagine plus vat
Then I said how much all in, I'm sure they said £400-450

Any advise please

These arms have a bush one end where they bolt to the subframe and a ball joint at the other where they bolt onto the strut. The ball joint has a rubber dust cover to protect the moving part from the elements. These perish and split over time and once split will fail an MOT. To fix this you'll replace the whole arm assembly and generally both sides are needed plus geometry afterwards so £400+ quite usual.

a bit more digging and quotes have come in

2 arms on each side, so require 4.

two garages near by said £500 to supply 4 and fit

1 garage said they are £56 each in parts so £224 + £170 fitting = c.£400

whilst a known indy in the VAG scene said £275 supplied and fit!!!
