Luckily this time i was sitting in it. chap has reversed into o/s/r door of the V70. It WILL NOT rub out!!!
Door is jammed shut, and my friendly mechanic reckons on 400 for respray of replacement door and fitting , plus door.
He thinks it could be near the limit for a write off,if it went through 'normal channels'
So do I
1) do a cash in hand with the chap
2) just ord ins job and watch the premiums rocket for next X years
3) say sod it and go through one of those firms that does everything for you and still wtch them rocket

I just dont want to shell out again

And whats the best way of getting the door open without doing too much damage to the door cards etc

I am leaning towards 1) but it really depends on what he wants to do.

Just need a arm around my shoulder just now!!!

It completely astounds me how people can be so fking st at driving they are unable to manoeuvre around stationary objects in a car park. That in my eyes counts as UNFIT TO BE IN CHARGE OF A VEHICLE!

My wife was reversed into in the staff car park. Sounds similar to your situation.

This was the damage;

The person wanted to pay cash. Best quote we got was £1400. V70 door skins are not cheap.

Yep. Best not to think about how they are driving around at over 5mph!

Well it's easy looking over your shoulder but try driving a van or truck without parking sensors and no way to see out the back except the side mirrors! I agree that if you can see out the back and still reverse into something it's a bad mistake but probably the person slipped on or hit the wrong pedal. Muddy boots, high heels, talking whilst reversing, kids, dogs or stuff in the back blocking the view. Stuff happens it could be this persons first accident in their lifetime you've got no idea.

Can't wait until camera technology is cheap/good enough to have 360 cover for a parked car. I don't even like my current daily car, but it's had some substantial bashes and scrapes added by gitfaces who just drove off. Would love to be able to trace 'em and drop 'em a line with a little HD video of their actions inviting them to cough up.

This (not mine, I hasten to add) was the result of a single vehicle accident in one of our car parks..

How do you trace a car by the reg? Ordinary mortals like you and I can't.

Form V888 for ordinary mortals DVLA will pass on details if you have reasonable cause - one example is where your vehicle has been damaged.

Here is how this will go.

1.Person who hit you will offer to pay cash.
2.He wont realise the cost
3.When you tell him the price he'll accuse you of taking the mick, saying it should only cost 20p and a packet of wotsits
4.You end up having to go through his insurance.

Jump straight to 4, trying to keep your own insurance out of it which will add no value other than a claim and an increased premium.

Hoofy, that made me chuckle.

Now an update

This happened at 10.30. At 11.45 his ins rang and arranged for the car to be picked up Sat, could have been tomorrow but i needed it, and a hire car to be delivered. No pennies departing from my pocket, and my ins have just been told of the incident for 'advisory purposes' and they have noted and thats it. Said they would contact me if they wanted to 'advise' me of anything else.

So just need to wait until Jun for a renewal to see what happens

The Scirocco was the only vehicle moving during the incident.. (this is where it was parked, ready for collection)

I would add a 3.5
They then look on the Internet and realise if they claim you were reversing too insurance companies will more than likely class it as a shared fault and you will lose your no claims. The other person will then not claim as the chances are it was their bumper which may have just sprung back. With no CCTV or witnesses you are stuffed even though it's completely obvious who was at fault. There are loads of these lowlife scumbags around these days.

Hi Silverfoxcc,

Assuming it gets settled as a non-fault claim, and it seems pretty black and white, there should be no detrimental effect to your future premiums.

If your insurer don't need to pay anything out, which it seems they don't/won't, you'll continue to receive your years NCB. You will need to notify future insurers, but - off hand - I can't think of any underwriters that we use that penalise a non-fault claim.

Ash

EDITED: Affect/effect. Sigh.

Isn't that tyre the wrong way around? usually the v 'point' is at the 'front' and chases water out to the edge! There are a few that aren't on bikes but never seen it that way on a car.
