Driving gloves

Are they of any use,especially in the cold, or do they just make you look like an OAP/plonker?

If so,what would be the best kind to get little bro for his birthday?Leather?Lined with Honduran virgin/rabbit fur?Those stringy backed ones that grandad used to wear in the 60s? Cheap & cheerful eBay ones or posh ones?

Still wont help him in his Micra CC!

Always wear driving gloves - a pair of fingertip less sailing gloves from Musto.

Don't have a boat however I have Musto gloves & an expensive Musto sailing coat which kept me very dry during the stty weather we had earlier this year.

Do I look daft? Maybe but, frankly, I don't care!!!!!!

Bought a pair of black leather driving gloves with a black fabric back from John lewis a few years ago. They look very subtle and are great on cold mornings on a wooden wheel - makes it much easier to grip too. I would say they are a must for winter early morning top down hoons.

Black and unlined were the ones I went for. I'm sure they're a bit pensioner but hey, I drive a Volvo and I like having the window open in winter.

I have a pair of fingerless cycling gloves for driving the Caterham on a cold day, which is more often than not up here in the highlands..

I don't wear them myself, but I've no objection to them provided they are good quality leather and the wearer has matched the hue to that of their belt, watch strap, shoes etc.

Dents make good gloves and their driving gloves are no exception (see above).

Spec a car with a heated steering wheel then you don't need them.

My Dad has driving gloves, he is in his 80's...but is no OAP behind the wheel. Hates having cold hands and likes the leather grip on the wheel. Has has just under 400 BHP under his right heel too.

It's not that long ago, according to my Dad, that the average car did not have a heater so people had to wrap up when they went out for a drive. Habits die hard!

If it's so cold that I can't touch the steering wheel then I have a pair of motocross gloves that get chucked off once the heating has taken effect.

Hate driving with them, they just get in the way. Same with jackets in cars.

I was given some for Christmas this year, but they have only been used for keeping my hands clean working under the bonnet, I like being cold

Wearing leather gloves to drive makes you look like a douche. I should know - I almost always do. I did it once for a laugh and noticed how much more confidence it gives you as regards grip on the wheel - it also prevents you smearing hand juice all over the steering wheel. No point unless it is a leather steering wheel, though.

I've only seen a driver wearing these gloves when he got out of his car during a road rage incident with another driver in front of me.

I like wearing driving gloves. End of. You don't need to justify them.
I've got 2 pairs and counting.

Buy a good quality pair, dents for example. Dunhill if you are feeling flush.

He did. I think the most impotrtant thing is that the driving gloves match the handbag.
