After a long spell of 25,000+ miles per annum, the sheer lack of consideration from other road users is really starting to grate on me.
Sitting in the outside lane of a motorway
Sitting in the outside of a dual carriageway
Pulling out on other vehicles
Deliberately holding up other road users by repeatedly braking or unnecessarily slow driving
A recent trend seems to be blocking a 2 lane duel carriageway way by overtaking a lorry or other vehicle at a 2mph speed differential then pulling in front into lane 1 and accelerating to 80mph etc to block your overtake.
Other trends include sitting in the outside lane for miles and then diving back (literally attmepting to drive into you to prevent you from passing) into lane 1 to block a car from 'undertaking' who is trying to get past on a clear road.

None of the above is down to lack of ability but pure bad attitude and ignorance. I've travelled the world and it seems to be a distinctly British thing.
How do you return the pleasure back into driving? I'm about to buy a weekend toy but what is the fking point.

Also it sounds like you need to relax a bit.
People going too slowly, people moving to stop you under taking? Are you stressed and permanently in a hurry? Are you sitting on people's bumpers urging them to get out of your way?

The problem isn't who owns it, it's capacity and convenience.

Calm down, slow down and give people a bit more space and I bet you find driving a lot more relaxing.
I don't tailgate as it is a major bugbear of mine.
I sit about 15-20 metres away patiently waiting for them to finish the overtake...except they dont.
Heres another little gem.
Cruise control on at an indicated 75mph so about 69mph, approaching another vehicle. Vehicle in the outside lane closing on you but then drawing level and slowing to match your speed effectively boxing you in and preventing you from pulling out. Once past slower vehicle in lane 1, overtaker again pulls back in and hits warp speed off in to the distance.
Ignorance? Lack of attention?

I'm doing a similar milage and I find the same, it does really annoy me when someone just pulls out in front of you on a motorway making you scrub 20mph in about 10 metres, not that that's making me slam the brakes on but when you're set on your cruise it does get annoying having to brake firmly just because someone either hasn't looked or believes that they don't have to adjust their speed to suit road conditions.
OP should still get the weekend toy, just have to get up early on the weekend. When i do it's good fun and often come across others doing the same.

Yep, it's time to load up that USB stick with some chillstep and calm down.
We go from borderline driving heaven to virtual lockdown here when the hordes pour down the M5/A30; it's always a shock but hey ho, rather than blow up, just wait until the fun seasons again.
I DO think people are getting more selfish, more arrogant, more aggressive but that's just society going a bit wrong.

I don't do quite as many miles but I have noticed a worrying trend on quiet B-roads recently in the form of 'laziness' or just bloody-mindedness which is to leave your high-beams on even when someone is coming the other way.
Standard proceedure is to wait until you can see the light source then dip your lights, but of late people just haven't seemed to bother. They can see, but I'm blinded. OK, sometimes it could be incompetence / forgetful, but not in the frequency it seems to be happening. It's just inconsiderate and dangerous for all parties.

Why should I have to use public transport just for your benefit? If driving bothers you that much you can use the bus and leave the roads clearer for the rest of us.I also have become entirely disillusioned with the standard of driving here. Driving along a 3 lane motorway is SO EASY. Yet people don't seem to understand the basic rule of being in the left most lane it's possible to be in.
Having a line of cars doing 65mph in the middle lane because they can see a Lorry a mile away and don't want to pull in to the slow lane for a bit is effectively halving the capacity of the road!
Considerate and informed driving will make the whole road system run better and accommodate the rising number of vehicles.
I also have issue with people who go blatantly too fast. Empty motorway? Do 95mph fine by me! Quite a bit of traffic? Slow the feck down.

My other half does around 25k to 30k miles a year & if anything its calmed her down...she used to enjoy driving quickly when possible but because she is out on the road loads she is very chilled about it all & just doesn't see the point in getting upset with it all.
Its me that tends to get frustrated with some of the things you mention but not that I have one now but when I had a quick car that helped help me feel better about the whole situation.

I'm driving about 40k a year now - 1,600 miles this week. Also thoroughly bored with driving. I drove this route a couple of weeks ago https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir/Ulverston,+Cumbr... and it was really really fun.

Couldn't agree more. Britain's got far from the best drivers in the world, but Australia's way worse. Lots of miserable people all religiously sticking to the speed limit and pulling out right in front of you without indicating to cheer themselves up.That said, even Australia's a fantastic place to drive compared to Russia; if you've ever experienced the genuinely life-or-death driving experience of driving on Russian motorways, you'll know just how much more pleasant it is to be driving in Britain, even on the M1 in heavy traffic. Then again, I'd rather be punched in the head repeatedly than drive in Russia again.
Is it fair to say the majority of people fed up of driving are in England, particularly southern England?
I'm English, and over the years gradually moved up through the country from Truro to Inverness and now in Ayrshire. After living in Scotland for 12 years you realise just how awful the roads are south of the border. If it's not the state of them, it's the congestion. And with increased numbers of drivers comes the higher likelihood of seeing driving muppetry.
I can well understand folk getting totally disillusioned with it all especially doing 25K+ miles a year.
Depressing thing is it's only going to get worse for you.
I do 100 miles a day to take my son to school (I go home again while he's at lessons) and it's a breeze. Not an option I would ever consider in England as it's just impossible to calculate journey time. 25 miles take 25mins, possibly 30 if there's traffic at rush hour in the morning
