I found out today that after October tax discs will cease to exist.
I have always been fond of the tax disc and they have gone into my little boys scrap books.....
I feel like a bit of tradition is dying out....again.
Anyone fancy raising a petition ???? Or is it just me ????

Wish they'd just make the whole thing extinct, yes they're getting rid of the physical disc but they're not making the system any less convoluted. Should just load it on fuel.

Drive whatever the hell you want, drive as much as you want, pay tax on the amount of carbons you make (ie. the amount of fuel burnt). Everyone pays a fair and relative amount.

OK if there is 20 million cars in the UK and say the average tax disc is £100 ( for the purpose of this exercise) divide it into months equals £8.30, so if the government receives double bubble for each car for one month at changeover, this will make an extra £160m + in revenue.Anyone up for civil war yet ? Yes, they definitely should.That way, the person with the V8 sports car nestled away in their garage which is only brought out on nice, sunny weekends will not have to pay hundreds of pounds per year because of "emissions", when he only drives a few miles a month, and uses his everyday car the rest of the time and pays two lots of VED despite only having enough legs to drive one car at a time. And the person who drives a BMW 116D and clogs up our roads for 50 thousand miles per year, yet pays £0 VED, pays his fair share in fuel duty.
Granted it'll make fuel even more expensive but it's the only fair way to do it.

No, it's not just you - I have advocated for getting rid of the paper disc for years, but last week I got what will be my last ever tax disc and I'll admit I felt a tinge of sadness about it. Still a good thing that it's going though, especially for owners of convertibles, motorcycles, cars with small windscreens etc.

+1It would be very hard to avoid, and easier for all involved - exactly why the won't do it.
The non-transfer of the tax is another stupid decision, why do we never get u-turns when we really need them.
