I had this, and had to make a serious evasive manoeuvre, one of my favourite B-roads some twonk had just stopped in the middle of the road just after a blind bend on the f
king phone.
So for me your answer is I would rather they just answer the phone when they're driving.
I mean, would you stop in the middle of the road to eat a sandwich?

I'm near sure the official guidance says something about pulling over where it is safe to do so, if they are stopped in a dangerous place I would imagine plod would have a word

Went up to The Mulberry at Chiddingfold the other weekend and on a sharp, unsighted bend, some middle-aged woman in a brand new Evoque had pulled half off the road to park up and make a call. To make things worse, there was dried mud on the road and the biker coming the other way very nearly had a nasty moment.

Part of the problem is these laws only exist because there are people for whom the simple task of keeping the big object with wheels on the black bit with the white lines is so complicated they can barely manage to breathe at the same time.....I'll get shot down for this but FFS it's not that hard to have a quick phone conversation as you waft along.
maybe handsfree should be mandatory on all new cars sold in the UK? Even humble fiestas have quite hi tech options available now

I still see so many modern cars that I assume must have bluetooth handsfree built in (ie. BMW's, Mercs, Lexus etc..) with people driving phone glued to the ear... it is often younger guys with the window open, seat wound too far back looking out the rear windows.. posssibly thinking it's cool to be on the phone... maybe they're too thick to work the bluetooth out...

For most people, it's not, no (and equally there are times and places on the road where it is arguably a definite ... it's not that hard to have a quick phone conversation as you waft along.

Even if your car doesn't have Bluetooth like mine, you can buy a Bluetooth box that clips onto the sunvisor for about a tenner. Great thing. Only needs occasional charging by USB cable. There is no excuse these days for using a handheld phone when driving. If you have take emergency action while holding a phone your reactions will surely suffer.
Why is it deemed necessary for folk to answer their phone right away when driving? In these days where voicemail is commonplace and most contracts have many free minutes so it won't cost to call the person back, do people feel the need to swerve to a stop in a dangerous place or risk using a handheld phone? Why not stop when safe and call the person back?
