In this case the golf R32 against some sort of 4WD that can tow at a dealer, would you sort out any minor cosmetic blemishes? The golf has scabby wheels in need of a refurb and a 20p sized chip/graze on the nearside arch. Other than that it's pretty good and mechanically spot on with FSH. Would I see the money spent on sorting these things out back do you think? The other option I'm considering is a WBAC type setup. If I were to sell it privately then I wouldn't even think about it, but just do it. I'd be keen to hear from any views 'in the trade' as it were.

It will almost certainly cost you more to fix than it will cost the dealer, so therefore you're unlikely to see the money back. Private sale, definitely do the work.

My view is that it'll cost about half as much to fix it Vs what you'll lose on trade in.
