VW Scirocco 2009-2012: change seats/dash/sunroof?

Hi all

I've been trying to find the perfect Scirocco but it seems the particular combination of colour/engine/gearbox & extras is very rare.

Just wondering if I could perhaps buy one that's not quite got everything and then modify it.

So a few questions for anyone with a Scirocco/knows lots about them...

I prefer the interior of the late 2009 onwards model but could get along with the older model if something came up, I just find the red backlight status screen a bit 90s - is there a way to change this (perhaps get to the bulb behind it?) to the white lit screen like the newer model? Could you perhaps even swap the whole dash with a newer one - I prefer the integrated dials too...?

Does the panoramic sunroof option have to be installed at factory/when the car is built or can this be fitted afterwards - and if so, any idea how much that would cost?

Is it possibly to swap out cloth seats and wire in heated leather ones - again, how much would that cost?

I imagine all of these changes, if possible, would cost quite a lot, but they may actually be worth it to 'build' the perfect car for me.

Loads of VW forums about in internetland, not to mention here on PH too, that could probably answer your queries.

I would say Pan roof is a total non starter due to roof construction in non roof versions & seats would be within the abilities of any vehicle trimmer.

Alternatively wait, as suggested in previous post!

you can change the dial pod but it requires the dial pod plus coding, you might get one from a written off rocco, but that would be about £300, plus coding.

pan sunroof is impossable, new windcreen plus they would have to cut out alot of steel,

seats again easy to do but parts are hard to come by.

the rocco is about to be facelifted so might be better to spec up a new one and haggle on a deal? i was looking for one for ages in white with truffle leather, sat nav, xenons and pan roof and the 19 inch turbines, one finally came up, but it sold pretty quick

my list of preferred options included
newer model 210 hp 2.0 tsi with DSG box, heated leather, sunroof, rear park sensors, 19" wheels and sat nav,
After searching for several months my only compromise was on colour,

I had originally wanted either silver or grey but ended up getting One in Green.

After seeing it in the flesh turned out to be a good choice for me as I love the colour and imo it suits the car perfectly.

So my advice as others have said would be to keep on looking,

there are lots more for sale now than when I bought mine 3 years ago so a suitable candidate is bound to show up eventually.

Yes I'd guessed the roof couldn't be done later. Seats are a possibility but as mentioned could be difficult to source, and then you need to try sell on the others...

Gauge pod swap out sounds reasonable. Some of the older cars that meet every other spec are about 2-3K cheaper than the newer ones that are missing the roof or leather seats so £300 +coding could be worth it. Good point about another facelift being on the cards though - I'd essentially be buying an even older model which will devalue more, so I have to take that into consideration...

Been thinking of compromising on colour and am now considering black or green as well as my preferred white or grey, but the right car still isn't around... there's a low mileage well priced ideal but older model car only 20 mins down the road from me so thinking I'll have a look at it and check out gauge swapping anyway...
