How to find details of a fatal accident

Apparently there was a fatal RTC on the A50 approach to M1 junction 24 sometime last year. My Ma claims it was a driver in her 50s - I can't turn up anything on news sites (or any others) via popular search engines - anyone got a good source?

I am not a rubbernecker, I use that bit a lot I'd like to know the circumstances so I can (heopfully) avoid falling victim to the same.

That's a bit of an odd request.

In my experience (and I have a lot of experience dealing with all types of crashes and accidents due to my job) every accident is different. I can't possibly see how finding out how a fatal accident occurred is ever going to assist you.

Surely it's just a question of "wrong place, wrong time".

Other than that, simply drive like you'd expect others to drive and you'll minimise your chances of being involved in one.

Thanks everyone else for the helpful replies.

There is no "bigger picture" (at least not in the way you conspiracy theorists suggest). If you choose to Google, there is a small lane called Church Lane that feeds onto the A50. It's a tricky one to negotiate, especially emerging from, then waiting in a single car size refuge to join the A50 towards the roundabout. I mentioned this to my Ma who told me a woman in her fifties had been killed negotiating that junction in the last year or so. I said I found it hard to believe, as even if one misjudged pulling out of the junction, traffic from the roundabout wouldn't have gathered much speed, and I found it odd (and tragic) that an impact was severe enough to cause death.

I wanted to understand more about how this had happened - that is all. Please feel free to post loads of further unhelpful and pointless bks if you like, and if anyone knows, for example if there's a public record of such accidents, please let me know about that, too.

Why don't you phone up the police force who dealt with it and ask them? They might be prepared to advise you.

Eh? So why do they investigate air accidents so thoghroughly then? Or is it just road accidents you can't learn from?

For what its worth I sort of understand what you're getting at. A road you use had a death, and you dont want the next one to be you.

Do like a previous poster said and be sensible and you'll be fine. If there is a serious problem ie: visibility, inform the council.

Generally speaking, an air accident will pretty much always involved a person dying. Car accidents....not so much. Only fatal car accidents are properly investigated by the police and the percentage of those is relatively small.

I agree though that "wrong place, wrong time" wasn't perhaps the best way to explain such an accident. This infers it is a question of fate, as opposed to someone's terrible driving, which caused the accident in the first place.

I know exactly the junction the OP means and can see why he's interested as I can't see how it could cause a fatal accident when leaving the refuge.

Having said that, I'm sure a 44t truck would have a good go at killing someone at any speed.
