Which HPI Check?

Hi guys,

I am currently in the process of buying a car. I do trust the current owner, but for my own piece of mind I would like to carry out a HPI Check.

What HPI check have you guys used and which would you recommend a fellow ph'er?

Only trusted the official one personally. https://www.hpicheck.com/

Make sure you do the additional checks like inputting VIN number etc, covers you for a lot more if anything goes wrong.

RAC use Hpi database and are £15 for 1 check which is a fiver cheaper than Hpi. Only difference is RAC comes with £5k worth of "wrong info cover" and Hpi comes with £10k. Then it boils down to how much cover you need.

Have no idea how effective the cover is if it all goes tits up.

I use the £2.95 check from https://www.mycarcheck.com/ - for more expensive vehicles it's worth paying for the 'Premium' check at £5.95.

IIRC all these sites pull data from HPi anyway.

Thanks for your help Guys. I went with the 2.99 mycarcheck one. Came back clear. I then decided to purchase the www.hpicheck.com one. this also came back clear, with a very thorough report.

I do have a question though. It states "The V5 registration document issue date does not match the information provided by the DVLA". I am not sure what this actually means.

Could anybody clarify this?

I had this come up on a report that I did. If I remember correctly the DVLA had the wrong info. They put it right and all was good. It's a phone call to DVLA.

I suspect the insurance won't be in force until things are corrected.

RAC is great value and presents the info in the same way as HPI.com (if you have any queries it's hpi.com that respond to you).

Mycarcheck isnt great value once you buy all the extra bits on top of teh £2.99 to provide the same level of info as the better HPI checks, and the reporting format doesnt inspire confidence, which I guess is probably why you ended up paying for another check.
