knowing how clever most of you are - have you any idea what advantage delaying taking your state pension for a year is, my old man has been told that you get a lump sum extra as long as you complete a full 12 months extra work, sounds wrong to me. Thanks

Delaying for one complete year gives an enhanced payment ( for life) of 10% over normal entitled pension. Alternately delay for a year and withdraw as a lump sum (taxable) the money saved and then proceed drawing standard non enhanced pension payments. Worth a look at gov pension website as it's easy to read and very informative re delay of pension. Ian
