Advice on approaching MOT

The family bus is approaching its first MOT in a few weeks. Audi recently serviced the car and called my mid work to tell me the disc's and front pads needed changing. I declined due to the cost and thought I'd do them myself. Now there doesn't seem to be any difference in braking power but the pads do look a little low. Is this an MOT failure or would it be an advisory??
Is it worth taking it for an MOT and if they need changing so be it. Discs look ok to me but I'm no expert.

Also, I've noticed the edges of the front tires have worn, but the center tread is fine with good depth, I've heard that the Q7 suffer from this issue due to the heavy front and turning at low speeds wearing the edges of the tryes. Is this a fail also??

brakes need to be pretty much shot to fail an mot , can you see a couple of mm of pad ?

whip a wheel off and have a good look , lots of garages try to sell stuff you dont need , but then again if they are worn out you might as well replace em

Stick it in, see what happens.

Brakes and tyres arent an area I'd want to particularly scrimp on, but I'm not advocating running out to put brand new everything on. If it needs them as advisory, get it done sooner rather than later

Thanks for the heads up guys, I'll stick it in a see what happens. Its just this month is an expensive month and I'll look to get them done next month.
