Hi All,

Just had confirmation from my lease company that my new car has arrived at the dealership and that I will need to provide my insurance certificate before delivery can be arranged.

The underwriters that my current insurers use cannot insure my new car so I have no option but to cancel the policy with them. The problem that I have is that my current insurance company will not release my no claims discount evidence until after I cancel but I can't cancel my insurance until I sell my current car.

I am going to try and sell my car as quickly as possible and the dealers should be able to hold the car for a few weeks. I was just wondering if anyone else has been in this position before and if there are any alternative options?

Thanks

Insurance companies usually give 30 days or so to come up with the proof of no claims bonus. Not sure this would work in your case.

You could always insure it with zero no claims and then cancel, taking a hit on the cancellation and period of use charges.

Your new insurers may also be able to add your old car onto the policy for a limited period.

Can't they provide you with how many years you have not including the current one?

A couple of insurers I have called have a 30 day grace period to send the NCD evidence to them so I *may* be OK if I can sell the car in-time. The second option I am not too keen on as the quotes without any NCD are very high and I would take quite a hit if I sell the car after the 14 day grace period.

I have already posed this question to my current insurers and they said they cannot release any NCD documents until after the policy is cancelled.
