Just changed my car, traded my Alfa 159 at a main dealer against a brand new Ford Focus.

Having just over 100k on the clock the Alfa was straight off to auction.

Car had FSH, but at the last service (around 94k) the book wasn't stamped, but a receipt was in with the book.

Just popped up on autotrader - advertised with 90k - and a big obvious sticker on the dash which I'd put money being one of those 'mileage can't be verified' jobbies.

I was ripped off when I bought the car, sorted and expensive problem at my own cost, and now it seems another unscrupulous con merchant is trying to rip the next purchaser off.

Now there's nothing imminently wrong with the car (it's getting a bit tired), but clearly being 10k clear of the 100k mark is going to be artificially inflating it's value.

I'm sure many will reply to say it's none of my business - but is that really the case? Would you be happy buying a clocked car while the previous owner sat idly by?

Besides, I'm somewhat sick of scummy little back street dealers.

So who do I report this to?

Not sticking up for trader selling it but maybe he is hoping to lure people in with the claim of 90k but it still shows 94k & he can say he has been using it or blame a typo in the ad.

I think before you 'report' anybody you need to be 100% sure.

Trading Standards, particularly if you have an old MOT certificate that makes it clear that the car has been clocked.
In your position I'd do exactly the same. Anyone who trots out the "none of your business" bks is merely condoning conning people.

Last service at 94k he sold it over 100k

Was on just over 100k, so definitely couldn't be saying 90 but meaning 94.

Might ring the dealer first, ask him a few questions and ask him to confirm the mileage.

I have the receipt from the trade in with Ford, it had the exact mileage at time of trade in on it.

Rang the dealer, asked a few questions, asked about the mileage,he straight away admitted he'd made an error and it was actually over 100k.

So obviously not been clocked.

Alls well that ends well then.
