RS6 ice track challenge: Time For Tea?

How do DTM drivers keep busy over the winter? Racing RS6s on a frozen lake, apparently

The products from Audi's marketing department so often mirror the actual cars it's almost uncanny. That lots of money has been invested is always evident but for every enjoyable video (R8 V10 on a dyno) there's an absolute spudder (see Tom Hardy test driving an RS5). There's very little consistency basically.

Fortunately, Audi Germany has produced a brilliant little vid here using the RS6. A pair of them in fact. The combination of a frozen lake, DTM drivers and 1,120hp should be fantastic and, surprisingly, it really is. The journalistic cynicism was unfounded!

Alright, there's some contrived 'banter' before Mattias Ekstrom and Timo Schneider get out on the track but, out in the cars, they appear to be given free rein. Being touring car drivers, this is taken about six steps too far, barging each other out of the way, getting stuck and swearing rather more than you may expect. And who doesn't enjoy powersliding V8 estates?

The result can remain a secret for now but there should be more from Audi on this soon. The Deutschland channel promises 'a legendary all-wheel drive takes on new challenges' in a season of 'Quattro challenges' videos. Let's hope there are more like this one.

Watch it here.

i found it refreshing that Audi, has promoted itself in this way

seeing 2 cars going round like they were on rails would not have been as entertaining

I agree. The fact that Audi places so little apparent value in what they charge up to £100k for is a bit insulting.

Not only that, I massively want an RS6 so seeing these two playing bumper cars makes me both jealous and angry.

Really?

As someone else has said, I find it quite refeshing that there was contact and that it was not yet another over-choreographed video. However, it was hard to see any visible damage to the cars at the end of the video. Therefore, not quite rental car scene from Days of Thunder. Which would have been even better.

I thought that was hilarious although I can appreciate how some people might be feeling a bit narked off. Bumping two £100k monster-estates together seems like quite a lackadaisical approach to sales but hey ho!

I find the comments above surprising, i find it refreshing a car maker showing a lighter more humorous side, lets be honest i am sure things of far more value than the panel damage to these two cars are destroyed in the R+D of such cars

I don't really care how they treated the cars, I was just annoyed that there was more fancy shots than there actually was of proper racing footage. If you watched an f1 race with those cameras, you wouldn't know who won, or what was going on.

'Be part of it' I would love too Audi but dispite your best efforts to make out they are drivers cars they simply are not. Super fast, super efficient yes but 'Be part of it' - Come on!

I guess you might find these particular cars were perhaps pre-production ones that may have been going to the crusher anyway, so a few dents is no big deal

Some strange comments on here, you would think the posters where personally out of pocket!

I for one think there should have been more contact and I am a bit dissapointed that it did not end in some sort of fire ball! hehe

Wow, some people really like to get offended, don't they? Perfect TfT material. Not serious, just a bit of a lark.

Love that, two young lads having fun and really enjoying it. Maybe Audi left them crash into each other so the usual PH cries of 'typical boring Audi video'. Wouldn't be as deafening. Great stuff Audi, ps I'll have the grey one.

I'm just praying I will never be seated next to any of you at the dinner table... Bloody hell, what a tough, boring crowd you are!
