I saw a car being pulled over on the M4 earlier, Clio I think.

Police "car" was a completely Un-marked silver Merc Vito Van. (Flashing blues in the grille/lights)

Bit below the belt I thought, plus would it make you think it was a bit dubious if it tried to pull you?

Not the most ideal Motorway patrol car.

They do seem to be getting more and more unsporting with their vehicle choices!

Was probably on its way to/back from somewhere rather than patrolling. That's how I got pulled over by armed response in an unmarked V70!

It's hardly below the belt, he could have been pulled for any number of reasons. If his car was defective or he was driving without insurance etc, we should all be glad the unmarked van was there!

No they don't. Cabs are borrowed for publicity purposes

They have unmarked motorcycles too and why not? Ridiculous to imply it's 'unfair'.

More unsuitable than unfair.

Surrey Police in Reigate have a unmarked ford fusion of all things. Wasn't sure if it was serious when I saw it pulling someone over!

Should be able to spot it a mile away, it'll be the only van on the road using indicators and not cutting anyone up.

TVP have a VW Tiguan in "middle-aged mum blue", and another in "Resale Silver".
Suppose that's the purpose of unmarked cars, although the 2 chaps in hi-vis jackets driving is a bit of a give away.

There's got to be some irony in that...

Was once pulled over by a Merc Vito van, 3 odd years ago now, stuck behind a small queue of traffic behind a dawdler, overtook all 3 in one go....

The car immediately behind the slow car was the above van, overtook himself, flashed the blues, pulled up alongside wagging finger and then drove off....

Last time I got pulled on the motorway it was by an ummarked armed response volvo. Didn't get done, - ended up having a chat about driving tactics (they where holding in my blind spot so I accelerated to clear them, and put myself in a place where I could better response should there be an incident) and then about the guns they used !
Really dont have an issue with policing like that, it how to improve police relations in my eyes, and not by using sneaky tactics to simply get a quota

I'm sure I saw an episode of Traffic Cops (or equivalent) where the officer was driving an unmarked truck.

I'll tell you what's unsporting.

A few days ago on my drive home from work here in Germany I approached a gentle bend with a 70kph limit along a B road in the middle of the countryside, the cars coming the other way were all flashing their lights at me so I slowed down expecting to see an accident in the middle of the bend.

Wrong, there, amongst the trees in the woods where four cameras on tripods (2 pointing each way), and the cameras had camouflage bloody paint. Deep along a lane in the woods you could see a Police van!

That's unsporting!

Same. Pretty sure they do have one unless Traffic Cops has been feeding us false info.
