Selling a car privately

I need to sell my car privately. Based on the mileage, year, spec and what is currently advertised on Auto Trader the current value I can probably realistically expect is about £17k for it. It has BMW manufacture warranty up until December of this year, which is renewable and probably makes it more appealing to a private buyer.
This is the first time I'm trying to sell a car of this value, as the dealer has offered me a pittance for it.
Has anyone successfully sold a car of this value privately? Normally I have sold cars around the £5k mark, but this is quite a bit more.
Would most people opt for a dealer when spending this amount on a car?
Just curious to know how successful people's experiences have been trying to flog motors over £15k.

eBay Classified advert works well, as does autotrader online, the one where you can put 15 pics up and plenty of description.
Try webuyanycar,com as they often offer more than the dealer, quite a bit more, but be honest with the description, I would say whatever they offer you expect around 10% more as a private sale if you can find someone who wants it that also has £17k sitting around, and that is your problem, the guy with £17k in his bank may well just go and get a new one at £x a month.
But as it still has warranty you stand a better chance.
Put some rough details up and we will tell you if £17k is reasonable or a dream.
