The Grand Tour - What car can you get away with?

Hi all

Hoping next year to be in a position to get myself a second car again. Those who know me will know I do big miles in my cars and I like to do trips around Europe with them. I've looked at a lot of cars which I have discounted because I assume they will be useless for touring in, but I wonder what other people's findings have been?

So, what have you done a tour or holiday in that you would normally consider impractical? My budget will, when it appears, hopefully be under £25k so no sob stories about how stingy a Veyron's matching luggage set is

Depends on what you mean by driving tour. I do these in a Boxster S, a good blend of speed, handling, noise, roof down, practicality with 2 boots and comfort.

A motorbike and whatever I can fit in a backpack. So any car will do really

I have toured europe in all these in the past. (at least 2500 miles in each trip)

1. 1.2 4 speed vauxhall corsa
2. 1.6 toyota mk1 mr2
3. Vauxhall vx220
4. Smart roadster

All fine for the job when I was in my 20s....... Usually two week trips camping with the missus and all her clutter....

This really. Modern cars are so good any would be fine. There is, or at least was a few months ago, a Polish registered Fiat 126 in town.

As a family with 2 kids we toured spain and france in a morgan 4 seater. It was a bit cramped but fun.
