However, you have to purchase a coded key(to start)Coded keys can only come directly from BMW so it would have to have been ordered through a BMW parts Dept. Designed & built this on the driveway last week 
1 soda-stream bottle (plastic is thicker)
3 infrared movement sensors + remote activation
Duct tape.
3 100db receivers (in the house)
Optional extra: baseball bat by front door.
place it upright in the center cup-holder overnight (the sensors don't penetrate glass) as soon
as anything enters the car all hell breaks loose in the house.
on the plus side, it cant be turned off with the cars key or cloned key (like the alarm can)
once it's active, it's active.

Probably not what you want to hear right now, but you may find it hard to get insured on another one. A friend of mine had his black E90 M3 stolen in the same way by an Eastern European gang. His insurance company paid out in full but refused to cover another one. When ringing around for quotes, other companies also declined when they found out details of the claim. Apparently the chances of a return hit are currently too great for insurance companies to risk given the security is too lax.He instead replaced it with a C63, for a similar amount to insure, even with his claim.

I guess pretty much all cars could be started by an enterprising thief but how about if it's on a drive a secure gate of some sort to prevent it being driven off?
