Subaru Forester owners with transmission/diff troubles?

Just picked up a Subaru Forester which after a long drive develops transmission wind up on full lock, so you cant then do a 90 degree turn eg parking, or reverse on full lock into the drive as the transmission is winding itself up in a knot, you can feel it through the car at which point you have to straighten up and move back and forth again to losen the wind up).

The car is a manual 2.0 2001 non turbo uk forester sport.

Any Forester owners had similar issue?

Feels like the centre diff is not doing its job.

Had this years ago on an old XT Turbo that had no centre diff so you had to jack it up every now and then to unwind the strain but cant see why a recent model would suffer from this, tyres all match and have equal tread mm so rules out that.

The history folder includes a bill for a centre diff/bearing rebuild less than 12months /10,000 miles ago for £650 which suggests its been fixed once already.

Any Forester owners / Subaru mechanics familiar with this problem>?

Very disappointing to buy this and find this problem, have owned lots of Impreza's many of which were highly tuned and took all the abuse without any transmission problems and this 120 bhp estate has a nasty problem.
