Following from this thread discussing saloons vs estates.
I'd say saloons are never cool. They can be good looking, competent, brilliant to drive or blisteringly quick but not actually "cool".
Think of the TG test: you are picking up a non-car loving date, you arrive in your saloon of choice... Would she think it's cool? Would she even notice??
An exception might be a classic of some description, so we'll ignore them.

I think on balance, Saloons are cooler for me because all I know is Estates are practical, Hatchbacks are practical.
Saloons are more associated with luxury - you can get a more refined cabin, stiffer body (aides refinement) and its more compromised as a design i.e you can do less with it as a car.
Anything that's expensive (cars in general) and is compromised over a "do it all" car such as an estate or hatchback is more exclusive therefore cooler?

The Citroen DS is a design icon even amongst people who know nothing about cars. Whether it's cool or not is impossible to say because its a rediculously subjective thing to attempt to measure.Of course saloons are cool. For the purposes of this thread, there are some which can be ruled out entirely though. The current Mercedes saloons are not up to much at all. Likewise, the current BMW series of saloons seem to be 'styled' to hide their 'saloony-ness'. Not cool. other non-cool saloon cars include: Jaguar X/S type, Skoda Superb, VW Passat, That Infiniti thing etc...
Top end luxo-barges should also be excluded from this discussion. That's a separate topic, as they're much more difficult to get right, and non of the modern options 'tick the boxes' for me anyway.

I also think a rs6 saloon in black is amazing, remapped to 800bhp?
BMW must think they are cool since they are turning saloons into coupes and then coupes into saloons again? Ala 6gt.
