Peter Smith of BL/BMW RIP

I've just heard that Peter Smith of BL and later BMW Mini passed away earlier this year but can't find anything online about it.
I believe he retired in the early 2000s at 65 so he didn't have a bad innings but still sad to hear of his death and was hoping to find something of his work at BL and then BMW.
Is there anyone here who worked with him?
Does anyone have any detail of how much he really influenced the modern BMW Mini?
