Why are Saxo VTS so cheap second hand?
Discussion
I just checked on ebay and there is a 52 plate VTS with just 16k miles going for £2300.
Why so cheap? it's a quick car (easily quicker than golf GTis of similar vintage) which handles great and doesn't cost an arm and a leg to run? I've driven a 1.6 205 gti and I genuinely prefered the driving experience of the Saxo. I remember I did 22k in one year in mine I enjoyed it so much.
Is it just because of the image? I've just checked on ebay, and there was another sold in January with 17k miles and it only went for £1600.

I'm nothing to do with either cars I should add.

4 star were asking, and seemingly got close to 9k for a 106 GTi with 4k on it recently.

The VTS was never held in the same light unfortunately, despite being pretty much exactly the same car.
I guess that goes to show what a good brand name can do, just a shame Peugeot pissed the GTI badge up the wall with the 206.

To be honest I think 2300 sounds like a hell of a lot when you can get the far superior Clio 172/182 in good condition for the same money.
Inversely if they do really cost that they've held their value very well indeed.
the one that reached 1600 quid is more like it for a low mile minter

This was mine, I wonder if its still out there. I over paid for it when I bought it, considering my name is Adam the number plate caught me. The last year I taxed mine for cost me £275, which is a lot but when you consider my current banger Bora tdi costs me £225 rent for a year it was worth the extra £50 without question. if I was in any position to do so I'd buy the low mileage one and store it for a few years, got to be quite a sound investment surely? People seem to love elderly hot hatches!
I can't think of another car that has earned such a poor reputation for attracting the wrong kind of owner, doesn't make them a bad car, but they were THE car of the modding scene in the mid-2000s and had all sorts of horrible body kits and 'zorsts' mercilessly bashed onto them.
I'm genuinely shocked they find buyers at £2300, when as some have said the cooler (imho) and faster RenaultSport Clios are cheaper.

They're cheap because they were cheaply made in the first place and most have been subject to years of thrashing by un sympathetic owners.
Also there's the image problem derived from some of the boy racers and chavs that owned them.
Pity really as they are lightweight, small and look like fun to drive. I don't think I could get past the boy racer image though...

£2300 cheap for a 12 year old saxo, that is bloody expensive!
I would have expected them all to be sub 1k by now!
Most of them are! Only the lower mileage ones go for more than a bag of sand now. You can get Clios for a similar price but nothing like as low mileage.I would have expected them all to be sub 1k by now!
