I've put this on the fiat forum and on here in technical section about 5 days ago but had no luck so asking in GG aswell (sorry mods)
this is a cut and paste:
Right i've had this since buying the car and had no luck with the garage I bought it from and regards to warranty.

The car at the time was untuned, the car now has a dpf delete + remap (215hp ) and the problem is still present - not worsened or got better.

The problem is usually when the car is under load - it does not happen under full throttle. When accelerating say from 1200rpm to 2000rpm+ a dump valve noise can be heard and will happen 2 or 3 times in succession, during this period the power drops during the noise and comes back again when the noise goes -so roughly half a second. This gives like a kangarooing effect whilst driving but i don't think it's noticeable to anyone watching.

The other time it happens the car makes a chatter sound like a car that has a BOV however no power is lost during this period?

I've used torque pro which shows no error codes, dealer at the time had no error codes and no lights come up on dash.

Any suggestions?

I'm based in Huddersfield if anyone can recommend a specialist if needed.

Here is some footage of what is happening (turn up speakers to hear) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfYXOjpfyl8

Had AA out a few months ago (when I tried having it fixed first time) and he said turbo hose was fine

It sounds like it's losing boost pressure, which explains the lack of power/kangarooing. The 'farting' noise could be related but hard to tell.

Has the system been tested for boost leaks with a proper pressure tester ?

I'm not hugely familiar with that engine so I am not sure if a drop in boost pressure would be picked up by the ECU and logged as a fault (most stuff I see with split turbo hoses will have a code logged for 'underboost' or turbo to manifold pressure deviation etc). If it hasn't been code read by FIAT I'd get them to look at it or someone that can look at the MAP values and know what they mean/are meant to be whilst it's being driven wink

My other train of thought is that the ECU is picking up a fault elsewhere (fuelling etc) and pulling back the boost to prevent engine damage but again, there should be fault codes logged relating to this.

Worth noting that not all fault code readers will pick up all fault codes and that just because you take it to FIAT for diagnosis doesn't mean you have to pay them to fix it smile

It could be something like a crack in the intercooler, something that only shows up under pressure, and then sits back where it was.

No, had no boost leak test yet, hadn't thought about that actually. It's fine under full throttle though if that makes a difference?
It hasn't been code read by FIAT either but has been by the car people (useless I know) and as i said the torque pro app. I didn't want to take it to FIAT because of the £75 initial charge =/

Pay the £75 to fiat, or find a fiat specialist and pay to have it PROPERELY diagnosed. If you want it fixed you will have to pay..

I don't mind paying for the work done but if FIAT don't have a clue that's £75 for nothing

This pretty much, £75 isn't a lot in the scheme of things.

Whether or not FIAT would pick up say the MAP sensor having a funny minute every so often and the ECU throttling back the boost pressure or not is a bit debatable but at least they should have the software and technical information to investigate it properly.

Don't turbos work different under load, if you just rev an engine it wont produce much if any boost but if its under load then thats when it works.

Why not try it on a rolling road.

It could be overboosting and the engine management dumping excess boost

It could be a poorly seating penny valve in the wastegate

As already mentioned, I would put money on it being turbo related

So what's my best bet:
- Diesel specialist
- Turbo specialist
- Fiat

A decent mechanic should be able to sort it. Fiat probably wouldn't look at it until it has been returned to stock.
The guys who did the tuning might not know all that much about engines, a lot just buy in files over email and load them onto cars with little mechanical knowledge.

this was happening before the remap so not caused by it.

did you not ask them about it when you were having the remap?

I'm sure if they can tune a car they will have an idea of what is going on or at least be able to plug in and read codes

Either the low pressure hose into the turbo is collapsing or maybe a high pressure hose is delaminating

I didn't tbh, It's only just started getting on my nerves and as I would like to sell the car in the next few months I'd like to set it right prior to sale smile
