Quirky remote locking problem.

Recently my Disco II developed a problem with the alarm and door locking remote sensor. The range from my key fobs to the car dramatically reduced from a few meters to literally a few inches from the roof. (fobs ok, new batteries)
I booked it in at my local LR specialists for tomorrow. So I am approaching the car today and idly press the fob button from meters away and CLUNK! the bloody thing unlock it's self. Press the lock button and CLUNK car locked. Been out in it this afternoon and locking, unlocking, alarm setting all seems fine.
So do let the mechanics try to fix a non existing problem or wait and see if it manifest it's self again.

Mmm! could be. Land Rover in their wisdom placed the receiver under the headlining close the rear sunroof.
The car's got to have a fog light replaced. Think I'll get the quys to check it out.

I'm dreading the day I'm forced to have a car with remote locking that can't be locked or unlocked any other way.

Luckily only 1 of our cars has it, and it's quite safe to leave the remote at home and just use the proper key, which does everything the remote does (including the alarm) with much less hassle.

The Disco 2 has a receiver in the headlining of the vehicle, just to the rear of the back seat light. This can go faulty, but so can the joint in the wiring loom in the passenger footwell. Mine's corroded to hell, and often gets bashed by careless passengers and needs bashing until it works again. Yours may be the same. PM me if you'd like more info.

The guy's replaced it anyway. Wasn't overly expensive. Will see if it stays ok.

I had this happen on my BMW where the range was cut to almost nothing, but the same for some of my neighbours!! It happened one night only and also some remote door bells stopped working too, the next day all was fine and everything worked. They was definitely some type of interference and to this day we can't explain it. When it happened if we took a car to the other end of the street the fobs worked fine, came back into the street then they stopped again, weird.

My Accord does this. One day it works fine the next it needs the button mashing repeatedly. I do mainly open with the key now, but I can only use the boot lock as the driver door lock sets the alarm off. Weird.

There was a story in the local paper where a room to room tv sender thing was stopping a lot of remotes in the local area from working

I guess try a spare and try it away from home

Possible. Happened in Rugby a while back; jamming transmitter hidden in a hedge forcing drivers to lock the car with the key, thus not setting the alarm on certain cars.

Yep, can confirm this happened to us. Marmitek pyramid remote IR sender that when in use, ie the TV it was there for was in use and it was awake, it blocked my house mates Vauxhall astra from locking and unlocking. He had to stand inches from the car to ensure it worked. Didn't effect my skoda or my partners Peugeot.
