The Range Rover Evoque is not known for its off-road prowess. Sure, it was made to be more capable on tougher terrain than its road biased rivals, but that's often overlooked. Focus has instead been paid to nine-speed autos and performance flagships. It's been a massive success for Range Rover as a road-biased SUV, but here's a little reminder it can tackle more than the health club car park.

The next Land Rovers will have some fancy off-road tech; turns out the current ones are still pretty good!
It's a slightly different off-road challenge for the baby Range Rover. It's in China, at Asia's biggest skate park. Halfpipes are meant for skateboards and not SUVs; this doesn't deter the driver though, who makes the Evoque do some fairly amazing things to the shock of the poor woman in the passenger seat.
There are two videos following this one also, one an original take on how well Hill Descent Control works and the other involving plenty of two-wheeling. Useful if someone says an Evoque isn't a proper off-roader.

I owned one for a year or so and it was perfectly fine on the farm near me - up a steep hill on wet grass and then snow in the winter. Never missed a beat and was - over that terrain - equal to my Discovery 4.
Having driven Defenders and Land Cruisers extensively in the bush and here in the UK, I can assure you that the Evoque is a capable machine off-road - just like a Freelander.
I guess some folks are so worked up in their dislike/ hatred for something that they'll make anything up just to try and convince themselves they are justified in their views. Nonsense though really, just bad-mouthing for the sake of it with no basis in fact.

Yes it will, if you're stupid enough to put massive alloys and performance road tyres onto a 4x4.t. Put it on a slight slope on wet grass, which is somewhere it is likely to go, and it will just spin its wheels. But, if you put on some sensible tyres then there won't be a problem.
For that particular test (ie high grip tarmac) what makes the evoque better than a comparable soft roader 4x4 with similar arrival and departure angles. It looks a bit like marketing bumph tbh.
Don't get me wrong, i'm not doubting that an evoque is better off road than, say, a rav4 or an xc60 but that test surely isn't that difficult!
You'll notice that they played music over all the crunching and scraping noises that it would have been making - i wonder what the reparation costs were to put that car back to showroom. (a mate of mine works in AM press fleet and the AMV8 that evo mag ran to demonstrate the 'day to day' capability of the car needed £22k remedial work before it could be sold due to it being 'treated like a 911')

As others said, ill informed garbage. The Evoque is very capable off road and that can be verified any number of ways. Of course you need the right tyres, but Land Rover prove what it can do to every new owner with their off road driving course included. Course is very tough, cars just have the right tyres. It wont go as far as a big Rangey but still farther than anything else in it's class. t. Completely agree about the tyres but of course they come with nice quiet road tyres, yes it is better than many but all the displays including landrover experience use nice grippy surfaces, when I suggested we go on the nice wet grass they declined saying the land owner did not want it churning up.
