My passenger side spring has snapped, ive been quoted 50 pound for a repair, their only going to do the one side but now i seeon google you should get both sides done, is this correct? And why? Does it make a big difference?

I wouldn't have much confidence in a repaired spring personally. Why not just pick up a second hand one and replace it?

Springs tend to relax/sag with age. Depends how old the car is. I'd do them in pairs personally but then I do notice things that general PH wisdom tells you are un-noticeable below Driving God status.

Christ, £50 is a bargain, the part alone is usually about £30

I had the offside front spring replaced recently, car still sits level and appears to drive just fine.

None of them round these parts, we're all far superior.
Depends mostly on the mileage/ age of the car. If the other springs got a few miles on it it's best to get it done too.

Springs will have 35,000 on them as that is the car mileage and dont think theyve been changed before

95% of people just replace the broken one, manufacturers recommend replacing both.

ETA: You probably wont notice a difference.

Hmm.. If you can afford it change both, If not take it easy until the new spring has settled, 200 miles or so should be ok.

well the cars not really worth a massive amount but i will have for another 2 years i reckon

I had one rear spring go at ~ 145k so I got that repaired (I was at my aunts and pretty much bedridden with a chest infection as well) and the other one snapped within a thousand miles.

Sounds like a slightly different fault to yours if yours went at only 35k though. Mine were just knackered.

I do go over speed bumps a bit too quick, do the springs usually last a lot longer than 35,000?

I've just come up with an idea for how you can save at least £50 on car repairs in future.

It's not going over bumps that breaks springs, that's what they're designed for! Over time the coating on them breaks off, water and salt gets in, corrosion happens and eventually the spring breaks.

I'd change both on the theory that the other one will probably fail soon.
