Mazda rx8- Good value or a world of pain?

HI all, Haven't been thinking about cars much lately, but it's time for an upgrade so thought I'd start looking at car ads.

Last time I checked, rx8s were prohibitively expensive, but now they're going for £2-3000, which is quite a bit of depreciation.

I took a 192 5 speed out for a spin and it felt solid, excellent steering feedback, not bad acceleration, good ride, great practicality.

So what's the catch? I know they use oil, they're a bit on the thirsty side and tax is a little steep, but they're cheaper to insure than my 1.7 puma.

So how come the depreciation has been so cruel to them? Keen to hear from owners. Thanks.

Lots of threads on here about them. A lot of the engines fail and require rebuilds. Plus fuel consumption is not great.

Must be one of the most discussed cars on PH, try a search. Thirsty, yes, but if maintained correctly they are quite stunning to drive and nothing comes close for the money really.

Fuel consumption is the down side.
