Airfields open to the public

Are there any airfields that are open for the public to drive on? I just had a new LSD fitted to my car and I want to have a play around without any danger of hitting other cars. Trackdays are a bit scary, I only went to one once and saw someone write their car off :/

There's a disused airfield near me but it looks like the farmer next door owns it and there are trespassing signs so I figured best stay away.

Tell him you intend to do a track day and intend to set the car up for a faster than legal speed to endure you wont wreck it on the day.

Be polite and offer him £50

I wouldn't reccomend trying it on a regular track day anyway as most of them don't like people drifting around corners on purpose.

Unfortunately I can't see a Farmer allowing it, even for a bottle of his favorite tipple or a cash incentive. The risk of your mates turning up and then the word spreading and more people turning up would be far too great a risk for any farmer.

Find a dedicated place to do it; Santa Pod does Drift What Ya Brung days for example. Then you can slide around in relative safety.

2 things:

1) I went to a trackday once and saw 2 or 3 people write their cars off. I also saw loads of other people go round all day having a marvellous time and not damage their car in the slightest!

2) Ask the farmer if you can use the land. He might be interested in what you've done and so on - you never know. He might be an enthusiast himself. The worst he can say is 'No.'.

Doesn't help, but I grew up near Chichester and everyone I knew learnt to drive at Tangmere.

We were there all the time, bloody shame you can't do it anymore.

Javelin track days run events at Barkston Heath where you can slide around as much as you like.
They run cars one at a time so you won't get caught up in someone else's mistake.
