How early can you pay for your RFL?
A quick google suggests 2 days and can't find anything on the direct gov website other than payment methods.
Surely if you were leaving the country and your car was parked on the road you would need flexibility around this with the ability to sort it early?

Ok peculiar situation in that the tax expired at the end of Dec at which point it was signed over to the insurance company as a write off, they then decided to repair it and was returned to me a few weeks back complete with the original logbook signed by me but not by them.
On checking with the DVLA I was marked as the previous owner so I asked if the insurance company was the owner and they said no, nobody is so I couldn't tax or insure it.
They requested a I sent them the logbook with a covering letter so they could re issue it to me which they have done and I now have that back with me as the RK.
Because of this I never SORN'd the car as I signed it over to them before it expired so at present I don't know if It is flagged as expired or SORN.
Because the RFL is £470 I'm thinking of holding back until may before getting a new disk as I have lost half of April already but will be away at the turn of the month so wanted it early if possible.
Is there anyway of checking the current status of the RFL online?

Thank you, its actually down as unlicensed, best get is sorted before a fine drops on the mat.
So from what has been said above would this mean I could buy the tax to start in May 2 weeks before then but obviously not drive it?
